Programs:
Fans with programs were at each seat for the ceremony. The fans were made of 100% recycled card stock, blue on one side and white on the other, and large wooden craft Popsicle sticks. The programs were made using the same recycled blue card stock and had recycled printing paper folded inside with the program and our vows so guests could follow along.

Escort Cards:
We found old Rummikub tiles (from our favorite game) online. After assigning tables to all the guests, we attached the recycled pink card stock with the guests' names to the Rummikub tiles. Each tile also had a magnet attached to the back so guests could take the tiles home for the fridge as reminders of the wedding.

Table Numbers:
Each table number was printed on a 3x5 piece of pink card stock made of 100% recycled paper. I made wire stands using fabric coated wire left over from making my seating "card" flowers. On each stand I attached a fabric flower made of sustainable fabric scraps.

Place Cards at each seat:
Each setting had a handmade fabric flower made of sustainable fabric atop a fabric covered wire stem. Onto each stem the name of the guest was attached using the same recycled card stock.

Guest Book - Scrap Book

Give your guests the opportunity to express themselves by making the guest book a canvas for scribbles, sketches, and notes. My husband made the book and used some of my hemp/silk charmeuse to cover it. We used scrap booking adjustable studs to bind it, and art paper punched with a 3-hole punch. I used old postcards and other stationary I've collected over the years to make each page unique.

Guests were invited to find a page to share with family or friends, sign, write notes, be creative, and last but not least, take a picture with the camera provided. Each page had a place labeled "Your Photo Here" for the future printed photo to be pasted.

Our guest book is a reflection of our personality, each guest's personality, and a great keepsake!

If I were to wear a wedding dress for the beach, I might wear this matte hemp/silk gown with a charmeuse top, twisted charmeuse straps, a V-neck with a matching low V-back, covered buttons in contrasting hemp/silk charmeuse, and a 1 foot train that I'd bustle after the ceremony. I'd wear a long veil the length of the train and wear cute shoes to peek out from beneath the slightly higher hem in the front.

Stonehurst Place

The Natural Bridal Collection 2009 photoshoot took place at Stonehurst Place in Midtown Atlanta. My Fiance and I have stayed at many many bed and breakfasts and this is the one to which we compare all others.

I was contacted by Stonehurst Place to see what we could do together as Eco-friendly vendors. As soon as I walked into the beautiful old mansion on Piedmont Road, I knew it would be perfect for my photoshoot and for a future eco couture wedding dress trunk show and for any elegant affair.

Scott and I stayed there one night and fully enjoyed the heated bathroom floors, the intelligent and comfortable decorating, the shower and bath...and of course the delicious breakfast.

Greener Elements for My wedding

Instead of buying new vases and vessels for the centerpieces, we'll be using an assortment of milk glass and fire king glassware that I've collected over the years. Incorporating my personal collection of glass makes the decorations uniquely "me" and fewer new materials have to be consumed. This saves some money, too.

All of the paper I have used for stationery is recycled paper, and of course, recycleable. We'll have a recycling basket for unwanted paper items at the reception for people who aren't into keeping programs and such as keepsakes.

There is an area outside the Pavillion at Serenbe Inn where people can sit on steps carved into the hill outside the covered reception area. I'll fold some vintage and antique patchwork quilts I have longways and lay them across those steps for additional seating through the night.

Getting Married this Fall

I am preparing for my own wedding this fall! My wonderful Fiance, Scott, and I are incorporating many many green elements, and I expect it to actually be more exciting that way! Green doesn't mean boring or frumpy.

I used plantable paper envelopes and recycled paper.
I handmade the envelopes using lavender colored paper from Botanical Paperworks.

I think boring is to get a regular old envelope to throw away - I would tell brides to think about how incorporating green elements can create a unique and personalized wedding experience for her, her family and her guests.

My Take on Green Washing

Decide what is important to you - social responsibility, environmental responsibility, going local. Understand that cotton might be natural, but it doesn't necessarily mean eco-friendly. Regular cotton supports an industry that uses 25% of the world's pesticides each year, organic cotton is a much better choice. If supporting the local economy is the most important thing to you, find a local tailor or dressmaker. There exist many labels, but don't assume that each incorporates the other. Local, organic, natural, fair-trade, sustainable can all exist independently. If you buy a regular cotton dress made in a factory in china, you might not really be going green at all.

2009 Natural Bridal Collection

The 2009 Natural Bridal Collection was an evolutionary step from my first collection. In 2008 I had never created a collection before, and was learning all I could from the professionals with whom I surrounded myself: Tahnee Bassett, Kyle Egan, and a host of people in the industry I asked a million questions.

In 2009, my new team of tailors and seamstresses and I had so much fun working with classic silhouettes but keeping my style. It has been important to stay green and beautiful. My fabric selection is mostly a selection of hemp/silk blends. The dresses are made locally. I contribute 5% of profits back to social and environmental causes.
